“Gusto namin mabigyan ng pagkakataon yung backyard saka medium scale farmers natin na ma-showcase ang mga produkto sa kanayunan sa pamamagitan ng Agri-Bazaar na ito,” Mr. Jose Manto, Event Organizer and one of the officers of the Agri-Aqua Network International, Inc. (AANI) said during an interview at the Agri-Bazaar cum Agrikapihan exhibit and seminar.
This month’s Agri-Bazaar cum Kapihan was held on March 15-17, 2019 and highlighted the livestock and poultry sector particularly the rabbit industry. The event was in coordination with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), and the Philippine Lapine Club, Inc. (PLCI).
In his opening message Mr. Hubert Sy, President of PLCI stressed the importance of working hand-in-hand with the government sector to develop standards for caring, breeding, and processing of rabbit. Furthermore, he said he was positive that by participating in this kind of activity, PLCI may help spread awareness and may promote the different breeds of commercial rabbits to the public.
This was supported by Mr. Ramil Rubia, Vice President for Operations of AANI who mentioned that they aim to inform Filipino consumers on the different types of rabbits; that some rabbits are for pets while others can be raised for meat.
The opening ceremony was also graced by BAI Assistant Director Dr. Jocelyn Salvador who extended her gratitude to AANI for inviting the agency to promote its services to the people.
The BAI through its Livestock Research and Development Division (LRDD) joined the event by an exhibit display, and rabbit meat cooking demonstration to further support this month’s theme. The Agri-Bazaar cum Agrikapihan exhibit and seminar is a monthly activity of the AANI that showcases various locally produced agricultural products and services at the Quezon City Memorial Circle. ### Aileen F.
