Bureau of Animal Industry-National Veterinary Quarantine Services Division (BAI-NVQSD) Officer-in-Charge Chief Dr. Imelda J. Santos represented the Office of the BAI Director in the recognition rites for the Officers and Men of Naval Intelligence Security Unit 71; Regional Intelligence Unit 12; BRP Nicolas Mahusay and Counter Intelligence Officer Master Sergeant Lilibert Orong on March 28, 2019. In recognition of this support to the mandate of the veterinary quarantine services, BAI presented plaques of recognition to these noble officers and men for being active partners in border protection. The inspection of animals, animal products and by-products at the border is an essential activity of the NVQS-VQS to verify compliance of incoming and outgoing commodities with the country’s animal health and national food safety standards. The Philippines as an archipelago has many entry and exit points and the high seas at the backdoor is considered as one critical entry point for the introduction of animal disease. To ensure successful implementation of the Department’s border protection activities, multi-sectoral support and collaboration are very important. Also present during the recognition rites were Dr. Grecelda Lariosa, Veterinarian IV, NVQSD; Dr. Castor Leo Ejercito, RVQO, VQS XII; Dr. Geraldson Navarra and Dr. Edgardo Duce (Veterinarian III and Veterinarian IV, respectively, both from VQS XII) and other veterinary quarantine personnel.
