This successful interception of undocumented movement of game fowls is proof that the country’s border protection requires multi-sectoral cooperation and collaboration. The National Veterinary Quarantine Services Division (NVQSD), under the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), as the regulatory arm of the DA, is responsible for enforcing animal quarantine regulations. The NVQS is mandated under section 26 (I) of Executive Order No. 338, s.2001 to establish veterinary quarantine inspection system relative to the inter-regional and international movement of animals, and animal products. This includes the import and export inspection and certification activities which are essential in maintaining our country’s highly favorable animal health status and access to export markets.
